HYPPOS AI at HELLENiQ ENERGY wins Industrial Best Practice Award at SuSChemE-SUSTENS 2

We are proud to share that the industrial implementation of HYPPOS AI at HELLENiQ ENERGY has received the Industrial Best Practice Award at the SuSChemE-SUSTENS 2 Conference in Athens, organized under the auspices of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) and its Section on Sustainability.
The award was presented to HELLENiQ ENERGY for the deployment of the HYPPOS AI soft-sensor system at its polypropylene production facility in Thessaloniki, Greece. Recipients were selected by an independent Industrial Awards Committee of experienced industry professionals, based on the evaluation criteria published by the conference organizers.

From lab results to live decisions
Polypropylene quality has traditionally been confirmed through laboratory testing, which means production teams often learn about a deviation hours after it happened. HYPPOS AI closes that gap. It predicts key quality parameters such as Melt Flow Rate (MFR) and Xylene Solubles (XS) in real time, using data the plant already collects. No new analyzer hardware is needed.
Soft-sensor readings update every few minutes and are shown to operators through the HYPPOS Operations User Interface, giving continuous visibility during production and especially during grade transitions.
The implementation followed a phased path: feasibility and scoping, KPI and ROI definition, model development, shadow validation against laboratory results, a go/no-go review, and finally live rollout.
Measurable results
According to figures presented by HELLENiQ ENERGY at the conference, the deployment delivered:
20% reduction in off-spec material
25% shorter grade-transition time
An estimated €350,000 in annual margin uplift
10.5 kt of CO₂ reduction per year
What they said
"At HELLENiQ ENERGY, we continuously seek technologies that strengthen operational excellence and support our sustainability objectives. The successful deployment of HYPPOS AI shows how advanced artificial intelligence can be translated into measurable improvement inside an operating industrial plant, enabling better decision-making, improved quality control, and more efficient use of energy and materials," said Dr. Aristi Bachtsi, Chemicals Production & Distribution Manager, HELLENiQ ENERGY S.A. "We are pleased that this collaboration with Hyperion Systems Engineering has been recognized through the Industrial Best Practice Award. It reflects the commitment, expertise, and close cooperation of both teams in delivering practical innovation with real industrial impact."
"This award is important because it recognizes proven industrial impact, not just technological potential," said Evangelos Alepochoritis, CEO, HYPPOS AI. "HYPPOS AI demonstrates what can be achieved when advanced artificial intelligence is combined with deep process engineering expertise and a customer committed to innovation. We are grateful to HELLENiQ ENERGY for their trust and outstanding collaboration."
"Innovation succeeds through collaboration," added Dr. Symeon Kassianides, Chairman & CEO, Hyperion Systems Engineering Group. "This achievement belongs to the engineers, operators, and project teams from both organizations who turned an ambitious concept into an industrial reality delivering measurable benefits every day."
What's next
The award comes shortly after Hyperion Systems Engineering secured funding from the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation to extend the capabilities of HYPPOS AI further. Pilots are underway across Europe, with more planned in Latin America and the Middle East.
Our goal stays the same: industrial AI that plant teams can trust, explain, and measure.
